چکیده

Abstract Superficial Siderosis of the Central Nervous System (SSCNS) is a condition secondary to deposition hemosiderin within subpial layers central nervous system leading its progressive degeneration, clinically responsible for hearing impairment, cerebellar ataxia and pyramidal syndrome. Here we report case 61-year-old man with medical history congenital hemophilia A presenting typical clinical features SSCNS associated extensive hypo-intensity on fast 2D gradient-echo-weighted sequences, along spinal cord, posterior fossa's structures cerebral cortex. Interestingly, although his disorder was revealed by lumbar stenosis, presurgical imaging subclinical impairment preceding surgery suggest another underlying cause. As comprehensive work-up performed in our department ruled-out usual causes SSCNS, this reinforces question ability generate own.

Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system: A case report

Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system is secondary to chronic subarachnoid bleeding. However, the underlying etiology is not always detected. Superficial siderosis can be diagnosed at MRI by the presence of a hypointense rim along the brain surface on gradient echo T2W images. The authors report a case of superficial cerebral siderosis where the underlying etiology remained undiag...

Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system.

We report five cases of superficial siderosis of the central nervous system. All patients developed progressive deafness and cerebellar ataxia associated with pyramidal tract signs or mental deterioration. The cerebrospinal fluid examinations usually revealed an elevated protein level, without other abnormalities. Magnetic resonance imaging typically showed a hypointense rim around the cerebral...

Superficial Siderosis of the Central Nervous System Originating from the Thoracic Spine: A Case Report

Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system(SSCNS) is a rare disease characterized by hemosiderin deposition on the surface of the central nervous system. We report a case of SSCNS originating from the thoracic spine, presenting with neurological deficits including, sensorineuronal hearing loss, ataxia, and corticospinal and dorsal column tract signs. The patient underwent dural repair ...

[A case of superficial siderosis of the central nervous system with total deafness].

Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system (SSCN) in a disease characterized by chronic deposition of hemosiderin in the leptomeninges, subpial tissue, spinal cord, and cranial nerves. Previously the diagnosis of SSCN could only be made at autopsy or during a neurosurgical procedure. Now, however, a diagnosis of SSCN can be made non-invasively by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We pr...

Initial neurological examination revealed mild cognitive impairment, dysarthria, cerebellar ataxia with wide-based unsteady gait and bilateral sensorineural hypoacusia. Laboratory serum analysis was unre-markable, including vitamin B1...
